Certified or Sworn? What do I need?
Lingo Flux provides both certified and sworn translations for legal purposes.
While these terms are similar, there are some differences and we will try to briefly explain below.
Sworn
A sworn translation is a translation completed by a language service provider (translator) who has been previously acknowledged as sworn translator by an institution of a different country such as Ministries of Foreign Affairs. They are usually given a stamp and a registration number with the Government of that particular country. This credential DOES NOT exist in the USA or the UK nor is required by any institution in these countries, as translation is a deregulated industry
If you are using the translation OUTSIDE the USA & the UK, you might be needing the translation to be done by a translator sworn by their government
Romania does require most of its official translations to be sworn, therefore, we work with translators who are sworn by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Romania and other countries and we are able to provide sworn translations when needed, for most of the countries
Certified
A certified translation is a translation completed be a professional language service provider (translator) who has no relation to the document’s holder whatsoever, who is speaker of both the target and source language and who can sign and acknowledge the translation to be true, accurate and complete reproduction of the original text. Such statement can be provided in front of a Notary Public or can be simply added on the translated documents along with translator’s name, signature, contact information
If you are using the translation INSIDE the USA & the UK, a certified translation is most likely what you need
ATA-certification or ISO certification sometimes required by some institutions
Our agency is both ATA & ISO-certified and we can certify our translations to meet legal requirements
